Even if you don't recognize the name, you've probably heard of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC). They are near-universally reviled hate group known for picketing and protesting anything they feel is associated with homosexuality. For just an idea of how terrible this group is, their slogan is "God Hates F*gs."

If you are unable to ignore the actions of these rabid protesters, you can at least turn your focus to the ways in which people have fought back against them. When WBC began picketing funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan - they claimed these deaths were punishment from God for America's tolerance of homosexuality - people responded by circling gravesites to block WBC from the view of people attending the funeral. WBC has an ongoing fight with the Foo Fighters and, when they've picketed the band's performances, Dave Grohl and company have responded by interrupting their protests with an in-person performance. Twice.
Perhaps one of the greatest responses to WBC hatred came from J.K. Rowling. She was on Twitter, celebrating Ireland's historic legalization of gay marriage. She referenced a meme about Dumbledore and Gandolf both being gay, saying (if this was true) they could get married in Ireland. A WBC account said they would picket this event too. Rowling's response? "Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls."
