Not to get too doomsday-like here, but, at a certain point, humanity's time on Earth is going to expire. This is most likely many, many, many years from now, but there are signs that it is inevitable. More and more studies are being published that say we have crossed a threshold with climate change. Even if all our production and emission of greenhouse gases came to a screeching halt right now at this very moment, it would be years and years before we could see significant change. Regardless, there's a strong case to be made that Mars is our best bet. As Trace discusses here, it could be the next major shift in human evolution.
