For the first time in over 30 years, the royal family executed one of their own for firing into a crowd. What power does the family have?

Saudi Arabia recently executed a member of the Saudi royal family for the first time since 1975. The member of the royal family was caught on tape firing an automatic weapon haphazardly into a crowd of people. The people of Saudi Arabia consider the Royal family untouchable, so this execution came as quite a shock.
