Used to be that 50,000 people overwhelmed the tiny town of Bunol, Spain for the annual La Tomatina festival, in which revelers spend one hour hurling 40 tons of crushed tomatoes at each other.
For safety reasons, Bunol began requiring tickets to attend La Tomatina. So now only 20,000 people spend an hour hurling 40 tons of crushed tomatoes at each other.
It's one of those uniquely Spanish events of mass hysteria, right up there with the running of the bulls in Pamplona. But at least with La Tomatina, the bloodshed is just ketchup.
