Hubble Space Telescope Discovers Hot Planet with Earth-Like Stratosphere

The planet, WASP-121b, is a gas giant that lies about 880 light-years from Earth and shows that warm atmospheres can be found on exoplanets.

The top of WASP-121b's atmosphere is heated to a blazing 4,600 degrees Fahrenheit (2,500 Celsius), hot enough to boil some metals. | G. Bacon (STSci)/NASA/ESA
