Mirror, mirror on the wall, what's my cholesterol level?
The Wize Mirror, developed by 11 European research groups, can tell you.
It's artificial intelligence goes beyond reflecting your bad hair day and to actually displaying information about your health - from your cholesterol levels to indicators for diabetes.
The mirror uses a series of "multispectral" cameras to assess an individual's diet, alcohol consumption, physical activity, smoking habit and metabolic risk.
One camera, for example, assesses blood flow and oxygenation in the face, based on the amount of green light absorbed in the skin and the amount reflected back. Another camera, through ultraviolet light, illuminates "advanced glycation end products," which are substances that have been linked with diabetes and other diseases.
The mirror can also assess nutrition and physical activity. A breathalyzer is used to detect blood sugar levels that can be influenced by alcohol and smoking.
According to the SEMEOTICONS project, which is the force behind the Wize Mirror, the technology exploits the face "as a major indicator of individual's well-being by tracing traits of physical and expressive status."
The goal is to someday implement these mirrors in home, fitness and nutritional centers, pharmacies and schools, according to SEMEOTICONS.
Mirrored Smart Floor Knows You, Tracks You
At the moment, the mirrors aren't connected to an app, but eventually this could be an option.
This latest innovation is just further evidence that the eyes are not only the mirror of the soul, but also a gateway to the health of an individual.
