In beverage news that few saw coming, an Oregon wastewater treatment company wants to partner with home brewers to make beer from recycled sewer water.
The Portland-area utility Clean Water Services hopes local braumeisters will create batches of beer to serve at events -- not a brewery.
And while the idea might appear strange at first, the science is sound -- witness Bill Gates raise a glass of poo water to promote the idea of turning waste water into both electricity and potable water. The Oregon Environmental Quality Commission gave a unanimous thumbs up, but another state board must approve the idea before any beer can be served using the process.
While waiting for the state regulators to give the go ahead, we do have some suggestions for marketing copy:
Tastes great, less sewage.
Get your mind into the gutter.
From our plant to your pitcher.
Don't even bother checking the "freshness date" because this came out of the sewer.
It's sewerthirty somewhere.
