Fencing is an ancient sport and debuted with the first modern Olympic Games, in 1896. It consisted of men’s foil and sabre events; epée appeared in the Paris Olympics in 1900. Women's fencing (foil) started in 1924, with epée added in 1996 and sabre in 2004.
