Last week, NASA officially closed applications for its astronaut program. The agency reportedly received 18,300 applications, far more than the 6,011 candidates who applied the last time NASA posted the job in 2011. What happens next? NASA reportedly will only consider applicants with college degrees in mathematics, engineering, or science. All remaining applications will be reviewed by real people and 120 people deemed qualified will eventually be invited to interview at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
