A UK beachgoer in Cornwall who loaned himself and his strength to help what he thought was a beached dolphin was surprised to realize that he'd instead signed on to help a stranded basking shark.
According to The Herald, Nicolas Andre was walking on a quiet part of the coastline when he came upon a couple trying to get a hold of a dolphin's tail. The animal was caught well ashore and was unable to get back to the water on its own.

"I started to help the man there," Andre told the Herald, "and I realized that it was not a dolphin but a basking shark of about four meters [about 13 feet] in length."
Andre and his fellow shark-rescuer were ultimately successful, with a good bit of heave-hoing.
