Largest Glacier Slide Ever Caught On Camera

Truly incredible and horrifying all at once

These filmmakers were in Greenland gathering footage from the Arctic Circle when they happened to witness the largest glacial calving event ever to be caught on camera. An ice chunk the size of lower Manhattan broke off, slid into the ocean, and melted away before their eyes.

Arctic land mass has been melting at an alarming rate. In fact, more landmass in the Arctic has melted away in the last 20 years than in the previous 10,000 years. You can learn more about this geological catastrophe by watching the documentary Chasing Ice.
