Why Iran's Election is So Important

The first election since last year's landmark nuclear deal could steer the country's direction for a generation

Today, Iranians head to the polls, to elect new members of Parliament and a select group of leaders to sit on a clerical council. This Assembly of Experts is in charge of choosing Iran's supreme leader, should Ayatollah Khomeini become sick or die. As explained in the video below, this elected body holds a tremendous amount of power, particularly at this moment when there's a growing movement of political moderates.
