Who wraps themselves in a cloak of denial? Who readily dons a selective-vision helmet? Who stands behind an anti-science shield? The answers are former House Speaker John Boehner, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz -- or at least the anti-hero versions of them portrayed as "Climate Inaction Figures" in a new social media campaign from the people behind the Years of Living Dangerously documentaries.
The campaign was created to "highlight the absurdity of doing nothing in the face of catastrophic climate change" and features "toy-inspired likenesses of prominent public figures who claim, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that there is no reason to act."

The figures -- all of which, alas, exist only online -- come with their own accessory or weapon of choice. The industrialist Koch Brothers -- portrayed as a single, two-headed entity -- boast a chest of money, all the better to fund climate-denying individuals and organizations. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, of course, has a giant drill. And Republican presidential nominee Donald "Global warming is a Chinese hoax" Trump? His weapon, in a fantasy inaction-hero world as in real life, is Twitter. You can view all the figures at the campaign's Tumblr page.
It's all fairly light-hearted, of course, but it comes with a serious message. As the campaign notes, "Temperatures soar, sea levels rise and glaciers recede, yet many of our nation's most influential political figures oppose taking any action whatsoever."
