The so-called Impossible Drive – or Em Drive – has been making headlines in science circles for several years now. A highly controversial concept, the Em Drive is a theoretical engine technology that purports to create thrusts without any fuel or propellant. If it works, it would change both terrestrial travel and space travel forever.
The problem is that the Em Drive concept violates Newtonian laws of physics, and as you may be aware, scientists take those laws very seriously. Still, proponents of the drive have come up with arguments and models persuasive enough to keep the idea in peer-reviewed circulation. And in fact, we may be testing an Em Drive as soon as next year. So what's the straight dope? Trace Dominguez has the details in today's DNews report.
