Politics in traditionally liberal Latin American countries has begun to shift to the right over the last decade. Both Venezuela and Brazil have even withdrawn support for their liberal leaders.
Yet there's one country that remains firmly to the left: Uruguay. Uruguay is generally considered the most progressive country in South America. They have a strong social safety net, comprehensive individual rights, and tolerance and inclusion are the norm.
