Switzerland is known for being a relatively small and diverse European country. Bordered by Germany, France, Italy Austria and Lechtenstein, Switzerland is divided into four smaller regions, each with its own cultural heritage and language. The 8 billion or so people who call Switzerland home have a high quality of life, largely built on robust Swiss economy and financial sector. Per capita, the Swiss have one of the highest GDPs in the world at $60,000 per resident. Most of the country's labor is based in specialized skills and advanced professional fields. Its military budget is relatively low at $5 billion per year, but the country prides itself on being a non-aggressive, peaceful nation. Switzerland is not a part of the European Union, uses its own currency, but it does belong to the UN and the European Free Trade Association.
