A A s tensions escalate between the United States and North Korea, and leaders of both nations threaten fire and fury, it’s time to update our notions of nuclear warfare. Gone are the Cold War days when a nuclear exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union meant certain annihilation. These days, a nuclear skirmish will likely be far more tactical and isolated, but the damage inflicted on the environment could still be devastating to humans far beyond any blast zone.
