Alligator Kills Burglary Suspect Hiding in Florida Pond
Divers find suspect's remains and the reptile that killed him.
A Florida burglary suspect on the run from police was killed by an 11-foot-long alligator, Bay News 9 reports.
The suspect, 22-year-old Matthew Riggins, was alleged to have been targeting homes in the Barefoot Bay, Fla. area with an accomplice when homeowners spotted them and called the police.
A chase ensued, with Riggins evading capture, only to be reported missing a day later.
Riggins' body was recovered from a pond in the area by investigators, who also came across the alligator and had to euthanize it. Officials said analysis of the gator's stomach contents confirmed Riggins' gruesome death.
"To hide somewhere to try and get away, and then meeting up with an animal like that, no, I've never had that happen before," a Brevard County Sheriff's officer told Bay News 9.
