The nonprofit group Conference Board of Canada just released a study saying that Canadians produce more municipal waste than almost any other of the 17 developed countries on the list — even the United States.

The Conference Board didn't just look at garbage production. They also measured air pollution, energy consumption, water usage and other factors. In most of these other categories Canada earned some A's.

But in municipal waste…tsk tsk, the Big D, and we're not talking Dallas. The sad thing is that a decade ago, Canada had a C. At least the United had a D a decade ago and maintained that D like the garbage champ that it is.

Canada is also up there (or should we say “down there?") with the United States on greenhouse gas emissions.
