Warming Behind Disasters, Says Insurance Firm: If

you've been thinking that there are more strong storms and other natural disasters these days, and that it

might be linked to global warming, you wouldn't be wrong. At least a huge insurance company agrees with


USA Today reports that Munich Re — which is the world's largest reinsurance company — says climate

change is behind the rise in hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, heat waves and drought and expects that to

continue, especially in North America.

"North America is the continent with the largest increases in disasters," USA Today reports Munich Re's

Peter Roder as saying.

The company looked at the past 30 years of climate history in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and

the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Reinsurers specialize in spreading risk across the insurance industry so that no one natural disaster can

bring down the world's insurance system.
