Approximately 50,000 gallons of oil have gushed onto a Los Angeles street.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the cause was a 20-inch pipe that burst on West San Fernando Road, in the city's West Glendale area. The spill was called in just after midnight Pacific time on Thursday, May 15.

The pipe has been shut off, and a hazardous materials crew has been dispatched to the area, which covers about a half of a mile. Oil was said to be knee-high in some spots.

Thus far, no injuries have been reported, though the spill has impacted a few businesses in the area. The fire department has not yet observed any oil reaching storm drains.
