Rumors are out the WiFi-only model of RIM’s weak-selling PlayBook might get axed.

AppleInsider reported the rumor cam efrom OTR Global and relayed by an analyst at RBC Capital Markets.

“Weak PlayBook sales may not be the only reason (for the alleged discontinuation) — RIM appears to be focusing resources around 3G/4G PlayBook, QNX ‘superphones,’ and upcoming BlackBerry launches,” Abramsky wrote.

The PlayBook came into the market in April without integrated 3G. There could be a potential 3G or 4G model coming in the next couple months, Abramsky noted.
