NYC's Day of No Crime, Kind Cop: DNews Nugget
NYC's Day of No Crime, Kind Cop: Something incredibly rare happened in New York City on Monday, Nov. 24. Not one single person reported a shooting, stabbing or some other violent crime. New York Police Department chief spokesman Paul Browne told Reuters that it was the "first time in memory" the city's police force had experienced such a peaceful day. This year, the city's murder rate is on target to hit its lowest point since 1960.
In other good news, a NYPD officer was spotted giving a pair of new boots to a barefoot homeless man. The random act of kindness was spotted on Nov.14, by tourist Jennifer Foster, who was visiting New York City from Arizona. She snapped a photograph of NYPD officer Lawrence Deprimo giving the gift of warm tootsies and forwarded it to the NYPD in an email. A department official wrote back asking for the picture so it could be posted to Facebook. You can see it here. Even more wonderful, the photo went viral, accumulating more than 1.6 million views, 275,000 likes and 16,000 comments.
