New National Holiday?: Could the United States have a new national holiday soon? Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, will introduce legislation next week to make June 19 Juneteenth Independence Day, says, citing the Houston Chronicle.

If you didn't know, Juneteenth is the celebration of the last slaves to officially be freed from slavery, in Texas, on June 19th, 1865, three years after President Abraham Lincoln had freed slaves across the country.

It's already an official holiday in 41 states. via
