Back in 1982, during a home renovation a family pet — a red footed tortoise — went missing. The Almeida family thought that their pet, Manueala, had escaped through an open door.

Thirty years later, the father, Leonel Almeida, passed away, prompting the family to clean out his storeroom, where he kept heaps of junk. A neighbor spotted the tortoise crawling around in a box with an old record player left at the curb and alerted the family.
