Foreclosed Homes Turned into Parks:

As part of an $80 million urban initiative, Los Angeles is converting 50 foreclosed homes into small parks. Currently, parks make up just 10 percent of the urban environment. But with the new 50 Parks Initiative, a public-private partnership will add over 170 acres of new park space to the city. Many of the parks will be located on properties left vacant from the housing crisis. Some of the money will come from the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program. And location will be determined based on the following criteria: population density, median household income, number and percentage of residents in poverty and the number of existing parks in a half-mile radius. via Fast Co Exist
