Dead Candidates Win Elections: Florida Democrat Earl K. Wood and Alabama Republican Charles Beasley won their respective elections but unfortunately, they won't be showing up for work. Wood, aged 96, died on October 15 and Beasley, age 77, died on October 12.

In Florida, Democratic state legislator Scott Randolph was selected by his party to receive votes cast for Wood and he will assume the office. In Alabama, the governor will work with Republican staff members to appoint a person to fill Beasley's job as commissioner.
